Learning Recycling through Robotics

In the GREENCODE Activity Book, Activity 6 about recycling, namely “Let’s Recycle” is developed to play a crucial role in teaching the importance of recycling to young children. What makes it unique is GREENCODE’s dedication to incorporating unplugged and plugged (primarily educational robotics-supported) coding activities into the attainment process to strengthen the learning experiences. By using the inquiry-based learning approach, it encourages children to explore, question and reflect on their consumption habits and the lifecycle of materials around them.

This activity nurtures multiple intelligence areas by incorporating unplugged and practical experiments with purposeful interactions actualised through educational robotics. The activity fosters environmental awareness in young children by demonstrating that small conscious actions, such as separating items and reusing them, can contribute to the planet’s health.

The sections in the activity help children learn practical aspects of recycling and develop their critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Those early acquisitions lay the groundwork for long-term eco-friendly behaviours and make them realise that they are the active protectors of the planet Earth.
